What is a "Friend" & what
do you do ?
We help the
residents of Histon and Impington, in their community
fundraising efforts by planning sporting events and
activities which raise funds for the Rec. Our successful
24Hr Fun Run raised over £2500, over a thousand people
joined us on the Rec over the two days and all the runners
and friends had a great time. We staged over a dozen
events during the past 3 years all entertaining, fun and
usually profitable.
Why become a friend ?
Many of the friends enjoy sports on the Rec or have have
children or grandchildren that do. Bowls, Cricket,
Football and Tennis are all currently played on the Rec.
Sporting activity helps to keep us and our families fit,
and having modern, useful, affordable facilities ensures
the future of these clubs. The Friends support all kinds
of activities on the Rec, by helping to fundraise only for
the Recreation ground. From the Ladybird playgroup to
Bowls, we hope to help safeguard their futures.

Can I be a friend without committing to anything ?
Yes - The friends support
the Rec, the development project and the continuing
welfare of the Rec, that is their primary function. Fund
raising events are held on a regular basis. A small
working group of friends organise these events. Having
many Friends works two ways. First of all, Friends will
have prior knowledge of forthcoming events and access to
early ticket sales. Second, the event will become more
widespread e.g. By friends spreading news of events either
by word of mouth and/or by displaying a poster in your
workplace. Also, If the Rec has 100 friends and every
friend bought a ticket to an event, we would have an
excellent start to the event ticket sales.
From displaying a poster, selling tickets, helping with a
leaflet drop or even just attending the events, you can
make a difference and help to improve the facilities on
the Rec. You can put in as much effort as you like to
assist this worthwhile cause.

About the Events
Steering group
There are approx. 10 of the friends, meeting constantly
though-out the year, organising fund raising events for
everybody to enjoy. The group consists of many people
experienced in organising fund raising events, from the
Parish councils, Histon feast, various Play groups, PTA,
youth clubs, Sports clubs and other fund raising groups.
With a combined wealth of experience in staging these
events, you can be sure that you will have a great time at
any of the Friends events. |
