Rec Sports and Fun day - June 7th

The activities followed one after another, celebrating our facility and our ability to enjoy sport and fun.  A centre piece was a dance display from the Junior School, for which (quite properly) the sun shone.

The traditional sports (football, cricket, tennis) were supported by the less well known. The croquet club and the bowls club had many of all ages trying their hand.  Korfball (a very popular mixed team fast sport from Holland) was demonstrated.  Budding Robin Hoods tried their hand at archery.

Over on the Football Club car park, a professional coach taught youngsters how to properly ride a bike.  And there were  a tuck table, BBQ, and teas, cakes and coffees.  All surrounded by a milling crowd enjoying the unexpected good weather and the event.

At five o’clock all quietly returned to normal, with the Rec looking as magnificent as ever.  Many thanks to Tucker Gardner for sponsorship and to the Friends of the Rec and the sports clubs for making this all happen.  See you next year?

Impington 5K success

On a rather blustery  May morning nearly 200 runners took part in the Sixth  Impington 5K Fun Run and the new Impington 1k Fun Run for Under 7s on courses starting from Histon & Impington Recreation Ground

Both runs were started by Steve Fallon manager of Histon Football Club taking time out from preparations for Histon FCs play off game with Torquay.

The Impington 1k was a great success with nearly fifty under sevens completing the 1000 metre course around Histon and Impington Recreation Ground.

The keenly fought 5k race around the Rec and farm treks around Chivers Farms saw local Impington runner Ashley Grimmer lead the way home followed by the Histon veteran runner Michael Scott .

Top three finishers;
1.      Ashley Grimmer  in a time of 17 mins 38 seconds
2.
      Michael Scott               17.47
3.
      Cliff Bailey                    18.09

All the various categories had good performances, and the respective winners were as follows;

Under 11 girls;      Pernille Nielsen          25.45
